Polyneuropathy associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus-A case report-

Abstract
Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown cause that may affect skin, joint, kidney, lung, heart, hematopoietic system and nervous system. The clinical features are very diverse but fatigue, fever, weight
loss,
rash,
arthralgia, lymphadenopathy, and pleurisy are seen frequently. The neuropathies associated with SLE are mononeuropathy, progressive asymmetric motor-sensory polyneuropathy, and radiculopathy, which occurred in 6 to 21%. The polyneuropathy is
common
in
older age with long duration of diseae and shows segmental fibrinoid necrosis with transmural inflammatory cell infiltration of microvessels. But in rare cases, it occurs very early in the course of disease, which can not be explained by
vasculitis
only. We present a cases of polyneuropathy in the early stage of SLE. The possible mechanism is cross reaction of the auto-antibody mediated injury to peripheral nerve or direct antibody to peripheral nerve.
